The Francis Marion Parking Facility on King Street was built in the mid-1990’s on the west side of Marion Square, in the Old and Historic District of Charleston, South Carolina. The ground floor was built to the street edge, but the upper five floors were recessed 16’ to make an open terrace on the second floor. With little connection to the urban fabric, the terrace tends to sit vacant. This project proposed to in-fill the space, utilizing each floor. Effectively, the entire addition will become the façade which will provide offices and a top floor restaurant in an attempt to reclaim an under-utilized urban space.
